FDA DETENTION SAMPLING

Only specialized laboratories with the proper experience and expertise are able to work with the FDA to release shipments. Deibel Laboratories is proud of the role we have in helping our clients release safe products to consumers.

Deibel Laboratories performs FDA Detention Sampling for held lots of food materials. The FDA has become increasingly stringent on imports and are flagging more and more shipments for concerns of pathogenic micro-organisms, heavy metals, filth and extraneous matter and pesticide residues. Only specialized laboratories like Deibel Laboratories has the proper experience and expertise to be able to work with the FDA to release these held shipments. By understanding the FDA expectations, we are uniquely qualified to help our clients meet and exceed FDA expectations in their food safety programs.

Good Importer Practices Draft Guidance

The Interagency Working Group on Import Safety published a draft on January 12, 2009 on a guidance for industry on Good Importer Practices. Those of the working group are the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Food and Drug Administration), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Office of the United States Trade Representative.

This guide was organized into four guidance principles:

  • Establishing a Product Safety Management Program
  • Knowing the Product and Applicable U.S. Requirements
  • Verifying Product and Firm Compliance with U.S. Requirements throughout the Supply Chain and Product Life Cycle
  • Taking Corrective and Preventive Action When the Imported Product or Firm Is Not Compliant with U.S. Requirements

These principles help importers ensure they comply with the US statutes and regulations when importing goods.
