Copper contamination in feedstock can cause poor oxidative stability by contributing radicals that initiate auto-oxidation in feedstock. Once auto-oxidation begins, it is not possible to stop or reverse the process. Poor oxidative stability in the feedstock will translate to poor oxidative stability in the finished biodiesel. Copper can be detected in trace quantities by ICP-OES.
